Can I put together two single units (model 181)? Will they fit? Because I don't want the hole between the 2 units
hissing about you revealing her hiding spot 🤬
Paige is an awesome duck and great mother. It’s nice because Hookbill ducks are not known for being good mothers and usually you need a broody hen to hatch out the duck eggs. I’m thrilled that 3 of my ducks went broody. 👍🏻
Just built mine with this video, much better than the instructions, thanks so much
That’s terrific! So glad to hear this!
Interesting method. Did you experiment before you did this coloring affect. Or did you watch another video, if so which one? I was going to do this same thing this week and surprised to see your video. However, in my initial thought before watching, I was going to mix same brand color in a misting plant sprayer after adding mostly water then coloring to a reddish brown color. Thus my first application to the dry pour would be the actual misting using colored water. What do you think, did you already try that method before the large patio in this video?
I did not experiment, I did it blind and trusted that it would do the mottled effect I wanted. It could have been a disaster but it worked beautifully so I posted the video to show anyone else wanting to do it. Good luck and post a picture when you do it. 👍🏻
Is there an easier way to spray. Could it be rolled with a paint roller?
You wouldn’t be able to roll it with a paint roller because it’s powdery dry.
Hello I just rescued a duck egg from my boyfriend’s lawn and I’m not sure if she’s alive or not I can’t see much veins and we think we can kinda see the shape of the duck but she doesn’t seem to react to light at all and the inside of the color is a soft red and we have no idea how many days the egg has
I’m sorry to say this but it sounds like it’s not alive anymore, however, if you have access to an incubator you can give it a try and see if it’s able to be saved.
Awwww
I have a question, if you'd be so kind as to answer. I've a duck egg right now at about eighteen days, but the duckling within doesn't seem to be moving or responding to light when candled anymore. Do you think she's dead?
I wouldn’t give up immediately, I’ve had a few that I was sure were gone but then hatched out.
Do you like angry birds?
😂 geese sure can be but this one thankfully has imprinted on us humans ❤

I love watching them eat! So cute ❤
Agree
this is so beautiful. i love the connection ppl can share with these animals
adorable, please get a proper place for them to stay and a heat lamp. not sure abt a name, names for my ducks always just randomly come to me
Please see my other videos where I do show the “brooder box”. This was done to be able to do a short video and share the new Hookbill ducklings. I do appreciate that you cared enough about them to say something just in case I was new to ducklings and didn’t know better. ❤
@@BarkingMadLLC okok thats good, sorry i forgot to look at other videos! tried to not come off as rude. i love ducks sm :)
@@meinerossygot any name suggestions? I’m just drawing a blank and “Lucky” just seems so cliché 😅
@@BarkingMadLLC onni? its a Finnish name for boys meaning lucky or happiness, you could google for pronunciation
Thank you! Had an emergency with one of my rats eating one it’s cage mates so I had separate the two that where still alive, I think it had something to do with not a big enough cage for them or when I switched there food, just got this cage and was gonna put it together but didn’t get the chance too before the incident, anyways thanks for the help in a dire situation lol
So sorry about what happened between your rats. I am very glad this helped.
Thanks for this video. I know it takes a lot of patience. Hope Carlton’s doing well. Im currently trying the CVC words. Which reading program can you recommend?
My Mom used to make jewelry from marbles. She did 450 degree oven for 1 hour. Then the ice water bath. She got a bunch of crackles.
What colors did you use?
I used 3 different dyes. A light tan, a terra cotta red, and a dark brown.
Thank you very much for this video.
I’m so glad it helped you! How many ferrets do you have?
Any updates on the new egg in the bator
I’m currently in the hospital and that’s why there hasn’t been any updates. When my husband came to relieve me and let me go home to have a shower I checked on it and saw it was muddled. It was a long shot, but I’m looking forward to hatching some spring eggs.
@@BarkingMadLLC I hope everything is okay. Spring will be a good time to try again I am going ti try my goose eggs for the first time. I feel like I mastered duck eggs but geese are harder ti hatch ( I hear )
@@waddleinnhomesteadI hatched out 2 of 3 geese so you definitely can do it. Don’t know if it mattered that they were in the middle of the incubator surrounded by Hookbill eggs.
@@BarkingMadLLC That’s awesome :). I am very excited to try goslings. My stella is such a sweet girl and her gander is as calm as can be. I’m hoping their offspring make babies with their personalities
@@waddleinnhomestead That’s wonderful! The goslings should have the traits of their parents (fingers crossed). What kind of geese are they
So grateful thank you so much. My rescue rats. are going to love this space!
This is FANTASTIC information! I think -40° is where Fahrenheit and Celsius meet 😮 … if you don’t mind me asking, where are you? That is waaaay too cold for me! My husband and I live with our kids in the White Mountains in Arizona. We get some snow but generally we only dip into the low 30’s F in late December, January, February (so, around just under freezing, like -2 or -3°C?) I’ve been in the U.S. for 21 years so I’m not great at Celsius anymore. I will definitely mark the air cell! Awesome Pro Tip! I do use distilled water in the incubator and I mist with warm distilled water every morning (those were tips I got from Angel Benner who sold me the hatching Hookbill eggs). I will use your method and try it for the manual turning, I did it about 7 times a day with a 90° rotation when I hatched out the flock that’s in my yard now… but it was my first time ever and I got only a 55% hatch… I was just happy I didn’t kill them all LOL!
I’m in southern Alberta I have an electric heater in the coop to help keep the crisp temps down. This morning it was -6 C in there in the enclosed outdoor shelter where snow , wind and rain can’t get in it was -21 I added a heat lamp over the feed and water area in the outdoor part so they can eat and drink I shut it off when I lock them in the coop and I remove all waters for the night to help with moisture. I don’t like heat lamps but I have them hanging from the wood ceiling and the ducks don’t fly. It’s only while we get through this -48C windchill ( 3 days ) when it’s in -20 to -35 I don’t use any heat source
@@waddleinnhomestead that is the kinda COLD that drove us to the South! Brrrrr!! Got a good friend in Calgary, and she lets me know how frigid it gets! My hat’s off to you for having the guts to raise poultry in that weather 😁
@@BarkingMadLLC I’m 2.5 south east of Calgary just outside Medicine Hat area. It sure can be challenging when we get this cold My birds are my babies. No way I will let them freeze or get frost bite. They will be in the house before that happens Last year we rushed all 16 in when we didn’t have the enclosed feed area done and put the water in the coop. This caused frost up the walls and floor. That’s why we built the added area. They can quickly go eat / drink and rush back in the frost free coop to warm up That’s why I enjoyed seeing you bring yours inside. I’m not the only one who braved that many in the house lol
I myself have not tried incubating from a fridge However a lady I know in the UK bought a dozen eggs from the store fridge and 2 did start to develop Both did hatch but her girls have had laying issues No idea if being cold caused it or genetics Washing them off also takes the Blume off leaving the egg open to bacteria I would be extra cautious when handling this egg to prevent bacteria I’m so very sorry you lost the other baby My fingers are crossed for you this time Incubating is my favourite thing to do :) I have to pack mine away so I don’t use them 24/7 😊 My goose started to lay eggs 3 weeks ago Way off regular time It was so hard not to pull out those bators and hatch her offspring But our winters are cold here I just can’t do babies right now Today we are at -39 C with windchill of -49 c One thing I would do to keep that egg safe is every 3 days I would wash out the old water and put in fresh for the humidity Mom leaves her eggs to eat , drink and bath so taking them out isn’t going to hurt the egg. My broody duck would be gone up to 40 mins in the mornings and 20 in the afternoon each day. She got 100% hatch rate I candle my eggs daily At day 10 till lockdown I pull them out for 10 mins to cool and mist the egg with warm water ( use distilled water due to the egg being washed ) once a day I don’t do by the book lockdowns I follow my egg Things to look for at lockdown Shadowing in the lower back part of the egg Egg rocking around and the air cell dipping far up one side much faster That’s when I start my lockdown I run 40-45 % humidity till lockdown then 70-75 fir hatching My heat is 37.5 or 99.5 in my forced air bator I like to manually turn my eggs 3-5-7 times a day Always an odd number so the night time longer period isn’t always the same side Turn to the left then back to the right next time Never keep going around in a circle I get 100 % hatch rates most of the time If I do go lower it’s 90% I also mark my air cells weekly and weight my eggs weekly This way I know if my egg is loosing enough weight. I can adjust at the 2 -3 week marks if I need less or more by adjusting humidity levels Higher humidity gives smaller air cells as the egg looses less moisture. Lower humidity gives more weight loss Also marking the air cells helps a few ways You will see the weekly growth and know when it dips forward fast for lockdown Also helps to see if baby pips inside the air cell area If a bruise happens outside then you know baby needs help Hope this all helps you
So glad I’m not the only crazy one lol😅 I had all 16 of my adult ducks in last year when temps got -48 C here We have since built and enclosed outdoor area where snow / wind can’t get in to where feed and water is kept it’s attached to the duck house It’s insulated and when that bad I run a plug in heater to take the chill off I keep it off the ground so it doesn’t touch the wood and hay No heat lamps I run a complete diva flock who are beyond spoiled :) Love seeing others love their birds like I do !!
This just made my morning! ❤🎉
Don’t give up yet The eye looks bigger then a few days ago With embryos it will look like 2 babies but really it’s the head / body with a thin string yoy often can’t see as the neck This is around day 10-14 Try to candle in the dark Don’t move the egg around just wait abd see if it moves I found certain times of day mine would move more then others When they die at this age all the veins will go quickly and into a glob where the embryo is When you move the egg around that glob will jiggle like jello in its spot The egg will look cloudy and no veins will be visible The not turning part may have caused issues and only more time will tell For now I would continue as it doesn’t look dead to me I can’t guarantee it will live abd hatch but that egg wouldn’t worry me yet As they grow the veins spread out more They will become longer abc thicker over time but not as grouped together as days 3-10 are If that makes sense My fingers are crossed Keep turning the egg by hand now and hopefully baby makes it
I’m so sorry to tell you that all the veins were gone this morning and it looked black and cloudy in the bottom part. I’m just heartbroken that I didn’t discover the turner wasn’t working sooner.
@@BarkingMadLLC Oh no ! I’m sorry :(
the need a bowl of water to sip
Thank you for caring about them, they’re truly wonderful. But don’t worry about the water, they are conditioned to not need water overnight while sleeping. They do get fresh water bowls in the morning ❤
I have chickens in mine. Your birds ate super cute.
Not very good. I posted a short of it this morning. Still has veins but not as vibrant and no movement. Really hoping for the best but I’m prepared that we lost the duckling.
With great veins like that , baby is fine It may just be in the middle where you won’t see it moving Veins equal life :)
Thank you, I’ve been fretting over this little egg and I’m worried after this morning’s video that something has possibly gone wrong
@@BarkingMadLLC How did it look today ?
@@waddleinnhomesteadthis morning is even more confusing, it’s not got a huge amount of veins but there are still some there and there’s no rotten smell, it’s a fresh smell in the incubator… soooo, I’m keeping it going until I know for certain, but I did discover the auto-turner was only pushing the egg, not turning it so now I’m manually turning (like what I did with my flock last May).
Yay!
Oh you so just save my bacon! I purchased a vintage Leonard champagne bucket to resell and when I started trying to remove the tarnish I was overwhelmed with the amount of effort it was going to take. So God bless you for this ❤
Especially them behaving like that trying to come at the cat
They think they want that smoke. They don't want that smoke from that cat.😂😂😂😂😂😂
lol, ya I know … we live in a Fire District and this is what the entire flock will ride in should we get evacuated.
Looking for hookbills
One thing to look for is veins all over. You won’t always see baby moving as some are more in the middle Egg 1 look like a ring of death and the embryo jiggles as you move the egg. It wasn’t the baby actually moving If I see veins all over I don’t take them out Once baby dies the veins will either clump in with the embryo into a blob that juggles or a circle of the ring of death but no veins inside that circle
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it will help greatly in the spring when we try to hatch a second clutch. ❤
lol 😂

Looks like you found yourself a Eyed Silkmoth Caterpillar, they are slightly poisonous so beware! May leave just some discomfort in the area you may have touched it (if you did).
Thank you for identifying this guy! I knew it was likely dangerous to touch because of how ornate it was, thank you for confirming.
lol
Did you try to teach letters first or go to the words?
We had taught him the letters and their sounds first. Thank you for posing that very good question. I hope you have good luck with this method. ♥️
👋
I Can not read the bottle of color, can you pleas post the name of the color you used.😊
I bought 3 different colors of liquid concrete dye at Lowes: Buff, Brown, and Red. Sorry the video didn’t pick up the color names. Hope this helps.
Thanks, was there a particular order you used when applying? Like which did you apply first. I love the final outcome! 🎉😊
@@jovitalamasbonita8367 I sprayer the brown first then red and the buff last, but the order isn’t truly important. What’s important is to slowly rotate spraying the 3 colors till you get the mottled look you like.
@@BarkingMadLLC good to know, thanks so much.
Is it this polyurethane safe for kneading dough for example?
I would contact the manufacturer of whatever brand of polyurethane you are using and ask the question if it is truly food-safe for that kind of thing. I’ve always used the Tupperware plastic sheet but not sure it that’s still available.
Nah they'll have to slow down for those magnificent speed bumps!

what type of geese do you have
They appear to be Greylag Geese. When I was given the eggs, I was told they were goose eggs and no idea what breed and good luck with them. 😂
Your posse certainly isn't afraid to greet you. How long have you had them? (p.s. I'm your mom's long time (68 yrs) friend from her home town)
Hi Judy!! I hatched all of them out from eggs I incubated in the middle of May (all except Scooter Duck, she was 5 days old at Tractor Supply and was my birthday gift). So the geese and Hookbills are now just over 2 months old. Scooter is almost 5 months old and just started laying eggs this week!
